Farley Festival

17th century church opposite the almshousesThere has been tradition of musical events in Farley since Richard and Jane Godfrey became Wardens 30 years ago of the historic almshouses founded by Sir Stephen Fox. Opposite the almshouses is a beautiful 17th century church to a design by a pupil of Sir Christopher Wren.

Richard is an eminent doctor, organist, fine musician and organ builder; he built the organ in Farley Church (with a little trigonometrical and other help from me!). When, in 2006, Richard and Jane bought my old piano, they were keen to share its qualities with a wider public and suggested holding a piano festival that would offer opportunities especially, though not exclusively, to younger artists. Since then, as artistic director, I have been able to offer the committee young pianists from the Royal Academy of Music who have played a wide variety of music from Scarlatti to Schoenberg at the highest level.
